The rocking Grannies

Jessey Ina-Lee:  One of the nice things about being older (and there are many) is that all the experiences of so many years past give a person so much to draw from. I have earned various degrees and certificates which include interior design, art, music and even a master’s degree in psychology.  I’ve had a number of different professions and a lot of jobs, including teacher, real estate sales/appraisal, secretary, interior and graphic designer, and homemaker.  Oh, yes, and there’s the very important jobs of being daughter, sister, caretaker, companion, partner and friend.  In my spare time, I’ve been devoted to animal rescue work, other social causes, writing, art, music and dance. Looking back from the ripe old age of 58, it seems amazing that a person can fit so much into a lifetime.

At this time in my life, I’m just bursting at the seams with creative energy from all that knowledge and all the skills gathered over the years, and I sometimes wonder if I’ll have enough time to finish even a fraction of the projects bouncing around in my head.  This website is one of those projects that’s been bouncing around for a while, and I’m very excited to see how it evolves.  I know so many talented women, and it will be a treat to see their work showcased here (along with my own, of course!)  Rock on, grannies!

Diana Martens:  One of my parents was an architect and sculptor, the other a musician and composer.  So, when I look back at my beginnings, it's not surprising that, after my formal education in art, I became fascinated with the rhythm, structure and texture of line.  Over time, I have developed an unusual style of drawing abstract designs using pen and ink. I also draw similar designs directly onto the surface of solid acrylic spheres.  My commission work includes everything from a huge wall mural in a city park to ski boots and exhibitions in outdoor shows in three states.

I’ve had many different jobs but art has always been my first love.  A number of years back I owned and operated an art gallery in the Tampa International Airport which featured artwork of Florida artists. The airport was an unusual, but wonderful place for an art gallery, and I enjoyed working with artists and exhibiting their work.

At this point in my life, I’m concentrating on my own work.  Some of my acrylic spheres and jewelry will soon be featured here plus some of the terrific projects that Jessey and I have done together.  It’s exciting to be a part of this website.  We have many great products that will be offered here in the near future.  Wait ‘till you see them!  They’re wonderful!

Susan V. Swinney:  All of my life, I have been thrilled by color, and if color film had never been invented, I wouldn’t be a photographer.  Color photographs allow me to share what I see.

Years ago, a friend put her camera into my hand.  Luckily, that camera had a close-up lens, so I could reflect my delight in the textured details of a flower petal, or the delicate whiskers on my cat’s beautiful face.  I was hooked.

Experiences with drawing and painting, floral design, many kinds of needlework, and even dance and music have all influenced my photography.  Even things that have no obvious connection to art, like nursing an orphaned kitten or hoeing the garden become part of me, and therefore part of my work.

As I continue to grow and mature, I remain fascinated by all the beauty that is right beside me.  Practically all of my thousands of photos have been taken right on my own few acres of land.  Welcome to my world!  Enjoy my gardens and my animal companions.  Look into the woods around my home.  Share my beautiful and amazing environment through the magic of photography.

More granny profiles will be added here as their art is added to this site.  Come back often and get to know our rocking grannies!
